2019 Pierce Velocity Pumper for Dallas (TX) Fire-Rescue

In 2018, Dallas Fire-Rescue began a relationship with Pierce to be the apparatus provider for the city.  As engines, trucks and heavy rescue units come up for replacement, Pierce is fulfilling the need.    

Engine 34 began service with Dallas (TX) Fire-Rescue on April 19, 2018.  New Pierce engines in the same spec are now in service at Stations 6, 11, and 18.  The cab/chassis is a Pierce Velocity model with seating for five along with a rear-facing cabinet mounted on the right cab wall and two rear facing, overhead compartments. The apparatus is constructed of stainless steel with dual-depth compartments (full on the bottom and half sized on the top) and Amdor roll-up doors. SCBA storage is located adjacent to the rear wheel wells on each side.   

Power is provided by a Cummins X15 505 HP engine and an Allison 5th Generation 4500 EVS 6 speed transmission with push button controls.  The TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension System is featured as is the Pierce Command Zone Advanced Electronic and Control System.  

The apparatus has a Waterous CMU two-stage, mid-ship 1,500-gpm pump along with a 500-gallon poly tank.  Foam capabilities are provided by a Husky 3 Foam System with a 30 gallon foam cell.  Foam is plumbed to the front jump line, the crosslays, the booster line and the left rear 2.5 inch discharge. 

The hose bed carries 1200’ of 5-inch LDH, 400’ of 3-inch hose and 400’ of 2½-inch hose.  The front bumper tray carries 150’ of 1¾-inch hose and three crosslays (250’ each of 1¾-inch hose) are located in trays behind the cab adjacent to the pump panel.  A hi-rise pack (four 50’ sections of 2½-inch hose) is stored in a right rear body compartment.  Two sections of 5-inch LDH (1 @ 50’ and 1 @25’) are stored in a compartment adjacent to the pump panel as is a section of 3-inch hose.  A Task Force Tips Crossfire Monitor (Model XFT-NJ) paired with a TFT M-R 1,250-gpm nozzle with TFT XF-SS5 and MST-4NJ shaper and tips is mounted above the pump panel.  A TFT Ground monitor is stored in a left rear body compartment.  The booster reel (200’ of 1-inch hose) is located in a center compartment on the rear body, and Duo-Safety ladders (24’ 2-section, 14’ roof, 12’ Fresno & 10’ folding) are stored in an upper right compartment on the rear body.             

Warning lights include a Whelen Freedom IV-D LED Lightbar (81 inch), Whelen M4, M6 and M9 LED lights on the apparatus body and Whelen Rota-Beam R316F beacons on the upper rear corners of the body.  Scene lighting is provided by Whelen Pioneer LED lights (models PCPSM2 and PCPSM1), which are located on both sides of the cab and body.  Brow lighting is provided by a HiViz LED FT-B-72 light bar mounted on the front cab roof adjacent to the light bar.  Audio warning devices include a Federal Q2B siren mounted on the left front bumper and a Whelen Model 295SLSA1 electronic siren module connected to two Whelen SA315P 100 watt speakers mounted through the front bumper.  Additional audio warning is provided by a Whelen HOWLER system.

The new Pierce rigs are in red livery and not the white over red, which was a Dallas mainstay for the last 35 years.  Dallas has not had all red equipment since the early 1970s.
