Darley Responds to Pandemic Crisis

By Darley Staff

As an essential business, Darley has remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic to support our military and first responder customers by providing hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of personal protective equipment (PPE). Rapid changes in customer demand shifted our focus to the PPE market. Darley’s OEM customers were included in this effort to ensure employees had the proper PPE to continue vital manufacturing efforts for their end-users.

Supply Partner Director, and 4th generation family member, Audrey Darley, wisely directed the team to call on the Stockdale Paradox: “You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.”—VADM (R) James Stockdale. Team Darley never has and will never lose faith in our mission to serve our military and first responder customers. Despite how challenging the times become, we continue to rally as a team behind that common goal.

Armed with the confidence that this situation will resolve in due time, many members of our team stepped up to meet this demand by working relentlessly to establish new partnerships. From the onset, understanding the commodity market and unprecedented demand, the Darley Team placed quality as its highest priority. Military and first responders have enough on their plates than to worry about the reliability and efficacy of the equipment we provide. Although we missed some big orders, we felt confident that all our bids were for quality, mostly all U.S.-made gear.

In innovative markets, Darley Defense led the delivery of containerized decontamination systems. Assistant Purchasing Manager, Anthony Lorig, personally managed delivery of 50 systems, made of eight containers each, to areas with the highest rates of infection. This allowed hospital, first responder, and National Guard entities to extend the use of disposable PPE during times of critical shortages.

Recently, Team Darley ensured delivery to FEMA of over 1.5M pairs of nitrile gloves in less than one week.

We also received and fulfilled an order for four million gowns. With direct White House oversight, we were able to get the supplies where they were needed. We continue to stock hand sanitizer, reusable masks, emote thermometers, and other vital equipment to be available when needed.
