Engine 28 began service with Haslet (TX) Fire Rescue on November 10, 2018. The rig is built on a Pierce Velocity cab and chassis with seating for 6 and a rear-facing EMS cabinet mounted on the left side wall of the cab. Exterior access to this cabinet is provided. The apparatus is constructed of standard aluminum with side roll and frontal impact protection. Full depth compartments and AMDOR roll-up doors are featured. SCBA storage is located adjacent to the rear wheel wells on each side.
The power is provided by a Detroit 470-hp engine and an Allison 5th Generation 4500 EVS P 6-speed transmission with pushbutton controls. The TAK-4 independent front suspension system is featured as is the Pierce Command Zone Advanced Electronic & Control System.
The apparatus has a Pierce single-stage, midship 1,500-gpm pump along with a 700-gallon polypropylene tank. The engine has pump-and-roll capability. Foam capabilities are provided by a Husky 12 Foam System with a 20-gallon foam cell. Foam is plumbed to the front jump line, the crosslays, the booster reel, and the left rear and right rear outboard discharges.
The hosebed carries 800’ of 5-inch LDH, 400’ of 2-inch hose, and two Cleveland lays (100’ each of 2-inch hose). The removable hose trays at the rear of the apparatus feature 200’ of 3-inch hose connected to a Task Force Tips Blitzfire monitor, 200’ of 3-inch hose connected to a gated wye, and a deadlay of 2-inch hose (300’). The divided front bumper tray carries 150’ of 1¾-inch hose along with a HURST eDRAULIC combination tool and tips. Two crosslays (200’ of 1¾-inch hose and 250’ of 2-inch hose) and one deadlay (300’ of 2½-inch hose) are located in an enclosed compartment behind the cab adjacent to the pump panel. A Hannay reel with 200’ of 1-inch hose is located in a rear body compartment. An Akron Hi-Riser 3433 Monitor with an Akron nozzle and shaper is mounted above the pump panel. Ladders (Duo-Safety 900-A 24’ 2-section, Duo-Safety 775A 14’ roof, and Duo-Safety 10’ Folding 585A) are stored in a rear body compartment.
Warning lights include a Whelen Freedom IV-Q 72 inch Lightbar and Whelen M4, M6 and M9 LED lights on the apparatus body. Scene lighting is provided by Whelen Pioneer lights on the body (model PCPSM2) and a Whelen Pioneer P*H2 brow light. A Will-Burt Chief Night Scan 1.8-600 Light Tower is mounted in the cargo area. Audio warning devices include a pedestal-mount Federal Q2B siren and a Whelen Model 295SLSC1 electronic siren module connected to two Whelen SA315P 100 watt speakers mounted through the front bumper. Additional audio warning is provided by a Whelen HOWLER.
