Unmanned Systems are being added as critical team members across first responder teams, and adoption is predicted to grow by 10% in the next seven years according to Cognitive Market Research.

While it is easy to buy a drone, the work of setting up a viable program can be daunting.

Jeb Brown, global director of unmanned systems for W.S. Darley & Company, and Matt Dursa, Darley’s chief legal officer and chief compliance officer, recently had the opportunity to present at this year’s Homeland Security Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

The top takeaways that Brown and Dursa report include:

  • Work with a partner that can provide real use cases and experience that bridge the distance between the plan and the real-life execution.
  • Plan for the long term as it relates to the type of drone(s) you’re investing in (Darley works with Parrot for unrivaled data security), who is being trained as the pilot(s), and how the program will live beyond the initial launch team.
  • Include your community, civic stakeholders and any legal experts because the work of first responders today also includes data collection, privacy, and many more technological implications.

We’ve included a video from their July 2023 presentation here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOnpqKzD-uY), where Jeb and Matt share real stories and tangible takeaways on how the UxS are being integrated, what to do and not do to be successful, and how to make sure you bring legal and compliance along for the entire journey to ensure success.

We’re always ready to talk if you want dive deeper into this topic.
