Coconut Creek (FL) leaders have decided to hire the city’s own mechanic to repair and maintain fire apparatus, a move that will cost around $345,000, tapinto.net reported.
As it is now, firefighters have to leave the city to have vehicles repaired. Having in-house maintenance and repair will reduce firefighter down time and get repairs done quicker, a fire official said.
The city plans to spend about $250,000 to have a mechanic, who will be employed by Vector Fleet Management, dedicated to Coconut Creek, the report said.
Another $95,000 will be needed to purchase special lifts and equipment to handle the apparatus, according to the report.
Coconut Creek’s five elected leaders unanimously approved the measure.
